FAQ

Q: "Whoa, hold up! Your wedding sounds epic, but my brain is overflowing with questions.  Who do I bug with my inquiries? (Please don't say the wedding planner... they look scary.)"

A: "Fear not, inquisitive friend! For all your burning questions or clarifications not gleaned from the below (like, "Is it okay to wear my cat costume?"),  you can pester either Kevin or Martha.  Reach them at kevin.martha.walters@gmail.com or by phone at 541-264-0402 or 541-999-5105. (But seriously, maybe skip the cat costume.)"

Q: Can I wear my tuxedo t-shirt? It's formal-ish, right?

A: While we appreciate your dedication to comfort, maybe save the tuxedo t-shirt for a night in. Dress up, have fun, but remember it's outdoors, so layers are your friend! No need to wear anything super formal, somewhere between a tuxedo t-shirt and a tuxedo would be great! Wherever in that range you are comfortable (just no white dresses...).

Q: Can I park my pet elephant at the venue? He's potty trained, I promise.

A: As much as we love elephants (especially the potty-trained ones!), we're afraid there isn't designated elephant parking. Ceremony parking will be off the side of a gravel road at Government cove. We recommend carpooling out to the ceremony if possible. Regular-sized vehicles should find parking easily at the reception. If you're staying at the Best Western, consider leaving your elephant at the hotel and enjoying a leisurely stroll to the venue reception. If your elephant (or dog) is a service animal then exceptions apply! Feel free to bring your service animal with you!

Q: I'm planning on arriving by pogo stick. Will this be a problem for the ceremony?

A: While we admire your impressive bouncing skills, the ceremony location unfortunately isn't pogo-stick friendly (or super wheelchair friendly for that matter).  There will be walking on gravel roads/dirt/soft ground. The reception, is fully accessible, so you can bust out your best pogo moves on the dance floor!

Q: I'm allergic to wedding cake. Will there be an alternative dessert, perhaps a majestic ice sculpture I can nibble on?

A: We'll do our best to accommodate all allergies and dietary restrictions. Please let us know your needs on the RSVP form, and we'll do our best to get you something delicious to enjoy (though we can't promise an ice sculpture).

Q: If I RSVP on March 2nd, will you send a search party to find me and drag me to the wedding?

A: While we appreciate your enthusiasm, March 1st is the RSVP deadline. After that, we'll assume you're off having a fabulous time elsewhere and won't be able to make it. No need for us to send out the hounds!

Q: In the event of a zombie apocalypse, will the wedding still take place? Asking for a friend who's a bit of a prepper.

A: While we haven't planned for a zombie apocalypse specifically (yet!), we are prepared for Oregon's unpredictable weather. The ceremony is outdoors, but fear not! If the weather turns truly apocalyptic (think sideways rain, gale-force winds, or ravenous zombies), we'll move it to the cozy confines of Gorges Beer Company. The reception is under a sturdy 3 sided tent, so come rain or shine (or snow or brains!), we'll be celebrating! Just remember to dress warmly – layers are your best friend in the face of the elements!

Q: I've heard rumors of an open bar. Is this true, and if so, will there be juice boxes for the designated drivers?

A: While we can confirm the rumors of an open bar (hooray!), we kindly request that all designated drivers be of the adult, non-juice-box-requiring variety (although there will be a variety of non-alcoholic options for adults more responsible than us to partake in). While we love children (especially our nieces and nephews!), this is a grown-up party - please leave your youngsters at home!

Q: Will there be a professional photographer documenting the "I do's," or should I bring my selfie stick to make sure I get a good shot?

A:  We'll have a fantastic photographer capturing all the special moments of the ceremony, so please keep your phones tucked away and be present in the moment! (We promise to share the beautiful photos later!)  Feel free to snap away at the reception, though – we'd love to see your pics!  (Selfie sticks are still not recommended...). We encourange you to share any photos you might take on the photos tab of our website.

Q:  Help! I've got a whole extra day in Cascade Locks and I'm itching for adventure (beyond the wedding festivities, of course). What are some must-do activities in the area so that I don't bother the bridal party?

A:  Oh, you're in for a treat! Cascade Locks is a gateway to some incredible Pacific Northwest experiences. Here are a few ideas to fill that extra day:

Chase Waterfalls: No trip to the Columbia River Gorge is complete without witnessing the majesty of its waterfalls. Hike to the iconic Multnomah Falls (don't forget your camera!), or explore the lesser-known gems like Ponytail Falls and Horsetail Falls.

Embrace the Gorge: Take a scenic drive or bike ride along the Historic Columbia River Highway, soaking in the breathtaking views of the gorge. Stop at Vista House for panoramic vistas that will leave you speechless.

Go Fish (or Just Watch): Head to the Bonneville Dam and Fish Hatchery to learn about the region's salmon and witness their incredible journey upstream. You might even spot some bald eagles!

Hike to New Heights: For a challenging adventure, hike up Beacon Rock, a volcanic plug with stunning views of the Columbia River.

Brewery Hop: The Gorge is known for its craft breweries. Sample local brews at Thunder Island Brewing or Walking Man Brewing, both with patios offering gorgeous river views.

Get Your History Fix: Visit the Cascade Locks Historical Museum to learn about the area's rich history, from Native American settlements to the construction of the locks and dams.

Q: Will you be providing luxurious villas with personal butlers for all your out-of-town guests? (Just kidding... kind of.)  But seriously, any tips on finding affordable accommodations?

A:  While we sadly can't offer everyone their own villa (those butler salaries are outrageous!), we do want to make sure our guests find comfy and affordable places to stay. We haven't reserved a block of rooms, but we recommend checking out the Best Western in Cascade Locks – booking directly through their website with a Best Western membership usually snags you the best deal.  Happy hunting!

Q:  I found a magical lamp with a genie who grants three wishes. Should I use one to conjure up the perfect wedding gift for you, or are you more of a "your presence is our present" kind of couple?

A:  While we appreciate the genie's generosity (and your excellent taste in mystical beings!), your presence at our wedding truly is the greatest gift. However, if you're feeling extra generous, we do have a honeymoon fund and a down payment fund for a house listed on the registry tab of our website.  But no pressure! We're just thrilled to celebrate with you.
